LTD "Dnepropetrovsk mill combine"
one of the largest enterprises of flour-grinding branch in Ukraine.
The enterprise LTD "DMK", formerly Order of Lenin "Dnepropetrovsk combine of bakeries", is situated in the central part of Dnepropetrovsk city.
"A mill on the Dnepr" is dated from 1894. Scilicet this year the manufacturer M.J.Fast began to build a big mill. The construction of the mill with a designed capacity in 300 tons a day had been designed with repeated factors of the stockpile on durability of walls of a bricklaying and production space. The grateful descendants-technologists of our days were managed to increase the capacity of this mill in 5 times: from 300 tons/day to 1 500 tons/day in 1979.
Already during the building Fast found out, that he didn’t have enough money for the colossal project. Fast sold the mill in Petrikovka, took extra credits in public bank in Ekaterinoslav city and continued the building of the mill. But the utmost obstacle in realization of the conceived project was the competitive owners of city mills. All of them, feeling the possible losses in case of starting-up of the new mill, united in the secret union of competitors and tried to disserve Fast. They gave forth about his bankruptcy and inexpediency of crediting of this construction, that the design of the building was not reliable, that the failures and destructions were possible. But Fast persistently continued to build being on the brink of bankruptcy. In 1897 the mill was mounted and began the starting-up and adjustment period. The competitors committed a diversion on its mill and as a result the produced flour was not suitable for realization. Fast had to stop the mill. In 1902 he transferred the mill to the association which maintained it under the control of its competitors.
In August, 1928 the decision of Нarcomtorg the USSR was authorized the building of a high-quality mill with capacity in 400 tons/day in Dnepropetrovsk. In April, 1929 began the reconstruction of mill manufactory №1. Heavy hand work were prevailed, the shovel, a stretcher, a wheelbarrow were the original instruments of labour.
In August, 1930 it was taken 26 waggon-load of grain of a new crop on elevator. All processing equipment, norias and conveyers worn were connected to aspirating systems. It began the everyday work in way to develop the capacities on the mill. They were so successful, that by the end of 1931 daily productivity of the mill on 3-sortable grinding gave 500 tons/day, i.e. it were on 200 tons more than it had been designed. In 1934 the work of mills became more perplex because there were not enough sufficient warehouse capacity for grain and finished products. On the mill manufactory №2 were built the grain warehouse for 1 500 tons.
The capacity of mill manufactory in 1935 has reached to 650 tons/day. In 1937 the volumes of manufactured products on combine have got 290 thousand tons, in 1938 - 323 thousand tons, in 1939 - 365 thousand tons. In 1940 the combine became the largest enterprise in Ukraine, along with the Moscow combine named after Tsurups and Leningrad named after Kirov, not only by the indicators of daily capacity, but also due to high technology.
The Moscow scientific research institutes of grain organized on Dnepropetrovsk combine of bakeries research laboratory for technological advancement of processing the grain as branch of its institute. The Odessa technology institute of the flour-grinding industry at combine opened the centre of preparation and training of practice teacher.
During the war the building of mill manufactory №3 burned down completely and couldn’t be reconstructed, the building of mill manufactory №2 was not destroyed; technological and electric equipment demanded the overhaul. The building of mill manufactory №1 also was remained whole, but grain cleaning equipment was completely destroyed by a fire. By the end of 1946 the main operation for restoration of mills and combine non-productive departments had been finished. The technological and transport equipment was not a new one but dismantled from other mills. Some equipment had been arrived from Germany by the reparation. It was used animal traction.
The plant in the post-war period when it was still in honour to use animal traction, 1952
From 1953 to 1955 the manufacturing capabilities became greatly consolidated and during this period it had been established and replaced 60 new production units there. And as a result in the first quarter of 1955 the combine have got the first place and it had been given the red challenge banner of the Kirov district and a regional executive committee, with entering its combine of bakeries on the region board of honour. Thereafter the capacity of the mill manufactories constantly increased and in 1960 it was constructed a new elevator with the capacity of 32 thousand tons. At the enterprise was intruded a new flowsheet of processing the grain, and later the combine became a leader of domestic flour- milling manufacture. Its products were transferred not only into Ukraine, but also to Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenia and also Africa and Cuba.
The construction of shop floor of the finished products, 1963
In January of 1976 the builders put in commission a renewed manufactory with capacity 150 tons a day of macaroni grinding, at the same time the warehouse of finished products had been built near mill manufactory №2 and a boiler-house in the territory of combine.
The dismantling of buildings and its annexes of mill plant №2 in 1974
In May of 1978 two loading machines were established in a warehouse of mill manufactories №1, №2 and there their operation has begun. The capacity of these cars is 1800 bags per hour.
The first base of modernization of the mill manufactory №1 was stopping the work of a mill plant in 1989 for 3 months for modernization grain-cleaning section which was successfully accomplished on account of the internal sources of financing. In 1994 two independent sections put into operation with capacity 250 tons of grains a day and with heating and air conditioning system that had provided stable production, improved working conditions, industrial art of manufacture and ecology. Simultaneously constructed pump station and compressor station, a warehouse to storage and to realize the finished products.
In May 1996 the fourth floor administrative complex was built and there situated domestic compartment and manufacturing-technological laboratory.
In September 1997 to 100 anniversary of the enterprise it had been opened the museum of combine.
By this time the enterprise structure is consist of: mill manufactory № 1, mill manufactory № 2, elevator № 1, №2, a warehouse, warehouse of finished products, transport manufactory, electrical manufactory, a steam-power building, repair-mechanical manufactory, repair-building manufactory, combiner section, VОHR, manufacturing-technological laboratory, garage, a material warehouse.
